China’s Space Program

November 4th, 2004

Last year, China launched a manned spacecraft and successfully returned. Despite the fact that Apollo 11 astronauts left footprints on the moon over 34 years ago, many Chinese people were very proud of the country for the event. They thought it was a sign that China has caught up with other countries, in terms of power, wealth, and technology.

Space exploration is a logical step in the development of humanity, and it might be essential to our future survival. It is a good thing for any country to have the technology and resources to send people into space. However I have some serious doubt in China’s space program. Read the rest of this entry »

Now you can buy one bus ticket, and take another seat for free! Here is how:

  • Occupy the isle seat while leaving the window seat empty
  • Occupy the empty seat with a bag

  • Cough continuously without covering your mouth
  • Talk on the mobile phone, speak loudly and make sure you say dirty words

* Dignity and respect not included, use it at your own risk.

PVNS on my Wrist

October 28th, 2004

PVNS is an uncommon disease, and it is even more rare on the wrist. In fact many doctors seem to be clueless about it. I had the visible lump on my wrist for 3 years but not knowing what it was and not doing anything about it, as it didn’t affect my daily activities.

I went to several hospitals and gone through different diagnosis including x-ray, ultrasound, and MRI. Finally a doctor specializing in wrist treatment diagnosed me with PVNS. The doctor had to read a reference book in order to find a treatment for me, and finally advised to remove the tissue by open surgery. Read the rest of this entry »

2046

October 12th, 2004

I watched 2046 last Sunday, and many of my friends are interested in hearing how I feel about the movie, so I will post my comment here.

This is my first time to watch a Wong Ka Wai film, and I am quite impressed by his unique style. The visuals are beautiful and the soundtrack is sensational. Wong is able to make the film extremely artistic and elegant, while not being overly pretentious. However I gradually lost my excitement after 30 minutes into the film. The visuals look good but I got bored when almost every scene looks the same. Most of the scenes are taken indoor, with close-up head shots, and blurred backgrounds. There is too much consistency and too little variety in terms of cinemography. Read the rest of this entry »

A Procedural Problem?

October 8th, 2004

Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa was supposed to announce “his” choice for a new secretary yesterday, but he abruptly cancelled the press conference due to “a procedural problem.” The truth is Tung did not have the guts to make the annoucement before receiving a formal approval from Beijing.

What happened to “One Country, Two Systems” when the government has to get approval from Beijing for choosing a local health department official? The Basic Law gives Hong Kong people the rights to administer their own affairs, it is Mr. Tung who gives up our rights and hands it over to Beijing.

First Come Not Served

September 27th, 2004

Last Saturday morning I woke up at 7:30 to help my colleague make the “Appointment Booking for Giving of Marriage Notice .” It was a terrible experience.

In Hong Kong, many people believe that picking a “good” wedding date is the key to a good marriage for a lifetime. The wedding dates are chosen according to the fortune telling in the Chinese calendar. My colleagues wants to book a “good” date which is very popular. Read the rest of this entry »

My Letter to “Long Hair”

September 25th, 2004

Dear Long Hair,

If you are dismissed from legco because of the stupid oath, it will be a complete waste of people’s votes. Staying in the legco will give you much better chances to make an impact in the government and the society. For the benefits of Hong Kong, and be responsible to your supporters, please just take the oath.

I know the modifications that you requested are reasonable, however some rules must be followed no matter how stupid they are. You are doing a public service, please give up your heroism.

Regards,
Sunny

Teacup in a Storm

September 22nd, 2004

The popular radio talk show “Teacup in a Storm” will go off the air next month. I thought Commerical Radio was supposed to be driven by the market, but obviously it is under political pressure, and imposing self-censorship now. The talk shows are great channels for the public to criticize the government, I feel sad to see them go away.

Mark Six (Lottery)

September 21st, 2004

Last week, many people in Hong Kong flocked to the Jocky Club to buy Mark Six tickets. Some of my colleagues asked me to join them buying as a group, but I refused. The owners of the Jocky Club are already very rich people, and I have no intention to make them even richer. I don’t believe in “luck.” Of course probability is real, but I don’t think there is such a mysterious force to make you win a lottery. Buying a lottery ticket increases your probability of winning, that’s it.

If there is such a thing as “luck,” there is no point buying lottery because “luck” will mysteriously give you the cash somehow, anyway.

Blog Subscriptions

September 21st, 2004

Did you know you could subscribe to a blog and get notified when a blog is updated? Most modern blogging applications support RSS (Really Simple Syndication), which allows you to read the blog in a RSS reader. The RSS reader checks for news feeds every few minutes, and notify you when a feed is updated.

As for the RSS reader, I recommend using the web-based Bloglines, which is very easy to use, and it doesn’t require any software installation. You may optionally download and install the Bloglines notifier if you prefer.

Welcome to Clouded Consciousness

September 21st, 2004

Clouded Consciousness is a text blog which I try to express myself through words, while Cloudless.net continues to be a photoblog without the talks. I have decided to separate the two types of entries, because many people want to see my photos only, while some others want to read my boring talks. Please pardon my poor use of English, since I haven’t written much for years already. If you like my blogs, please support me by writing comments or messages.
