About My Diary

My online diary is the first diary I've ever written in my life. If you check back my first diary entries (May 1999), they had only one line for each day, and I didn't write it every day. I wrote them to let my few best friends in Hong Kong and USA know what was happening with me in Taiwan. A month later it became my habit, and I wrote much more than before. Long distance phone calls are very expensive in Taiwan, so the Internet became my major communication tool. I found putting stuff on my homepage better than sending email or ICQ messages to everyone. I share my stuff not because I think my life is interesting, rather it is a way to express how boring my life is. The diary is good for myself too. In a short term, it helps keeping me sane to tell myself what really happened during the day. In the long term, I can look back and review what had happened to me, and how I have changed.

There are many good reasons to write a diary, but the big question is - why should I put it in a place the whole world can see? First of all, I want to clarify that it is not a true diary. I am not a member of the crazy webcam camp who performs live show on the web. I do not write everything in the diary, I need to protect my own privacy, and the privacy of the people around me. If you tell me a secret, or anything that you wouldn't want others to know, I won't put it in the diary. I've never mentioned any person's name in my diary, when you see one, it will be a fake name, just to make it easy for you to follow the story. Under those restrictions, my diary is safe enough to go public. I am glad to know (from the guestbook) that my friends enjoy reading my diary. For strangers, I don't mind to let them read my daily life at all, because they won't affect my life in any way. The only people that I want to hide from are my bosses, because I don't want to reveal my "flaws" to them.

It is just the second month, let's see how it goes. I might get lazy or tired of writing it later, but for now I really enjoy writing it, hope you enjoy reading it too.
