November 2000 Diary

(Sun Nov 26) The weather was very nice this afternoon, a good day for basketball and roller skate. But my knee hasn't fully recovered yet, so I finally stayed home watching The Beach Boys (a Japanese TV series) all day. The more I watch it, the more I wanted to go out. The good sunshine shouldn't be wasted. I went out to get my scooter (I left it near my office yesterday). Without a destination, I just rode it back home and watched TV again.

(Mon Nov 27) I finally try to pick up my diary again. Because I am still "wireless" at home, I have to copy the new pages onto a CDRW disc and bring it to the office. My CDRW drive destroyed yet another new disc while I was trying to do that. I must call Acer and wait for them to fix the drive. For now, I just have to use SmartMedia (the memory card in my digital camera) to transfer files between home and office. ::: I feel quite uncomfortable to resume writing my diary again. My oral Chinese has improved over the months, but my English is going the opposite. I write very slowly now, and I have forgotten a lot of vocabulary already. Perhaps I should read and write more.

(Wed Nov 29) I had Sushi dinner with Nicole and we talked about a lot of things. She is going to take an English Skills class next month. When she told me the whole course costs only NT$3xxx, I immediately decided to take some classes too. I will probably take a Japanese class, but I have not decided yet. We actually went to check the prices after dinner, the beginner's Japanese class, which includes 45 hours of lecture time, costs NT$5000 only. I think it is a pretty deal. Although I am not sure whether learning yet another human (non-computer) language could benefit me, I guess it would be a good time-killer, and hopefully I will meet some cute gals at the school. ::: When I went back home, I had a nice and comfortable chat with my mom over the phone. During the last few months, much of our conversation was about the legal issues between my previous company and me. It is over now, so I can finally chat with my mom without stress. After chatting with my mom, I tried to call Hubert. His mom answered the phone; she said Hubert was in China for a few weeks. She was very interested in knowing who wanted to call her son. She became excited when I told her that I was Hubert's high-school classmate and I was calling from Taiwan. Then we had a few minutes of chat. ::: I must be hyperactive tonight. After chatting with Nicole, my mom, and Hubert's mom, I called Pat but no answer. Then I went to the park to play basketball. I am finishing today's diary now, but I still want to write more stuff.

(Thu Nov 30) I asked Flora about her Japanese study. She takes her classes at Earth Village, which has a very interesting pricing scheme. It is a membership system, members pay a semi-annual or annual fee. A member can attend any scheduled lectures, without limit of repeating or skipping classes. There are many different levels, almost all the levels are available every week, so a member can learn at his/her own pace. I think this system fits my unstable working schedule.
